York Stone Paving Could Only Be Cleaned and Protected During Limited Access Times
Weekend Work for 21 Moorfields Paving Scheme Deep Clean
Located near London’s world famous Barbican Centre, you will find the city streets of Moorfields, Fore Street Avenue and Moor Lane. These three streets form part of the new 21 Moorfields Paving Scheme, which commenced in May 2024. As part of the scheme, some 1,595m2 of York Stone Paving was to undergo a thorough deep clean followed by an application of a paving protector.
Due to the busy nature of the locality, the City of London imposed tight working restrictions on the cleaning and protection operations. Works could only take place on Saturdays between the hours 9am and 2pm. In order to complete the task, five separate visits were made, on five consecutive Saturdays.
Two operatives from the Surface Solve Ltd Street Cleaning Team were despatched to the Moorfields area and worked during the assigned hours, on five Saturdays during May and June. The paving scheme deep clean of the York Stone Paving was undertaken with the aid of a dual lance Go-Gum Lanceman DiBO Cleaning Machine. This allowed both operatives to work simultaneously, deep cleaning the footpaths and pavements, with increased efficiency.
Once each section had been completely cleansed, the paving scheme deep clean concluded with two applications of Pave-Saver. Pave-Saver is our unique paving protector which protects the York Stone Paving surface from a variety of types of pollution, including discarded chewing gum. Pave-Saver helps the York Stone Paving remain clean by repelling water, airborne dirt, acid rain, smog, industrial pollutants, oil and grease, dust and organic growth (lichens & moss). Thanks to its incredible penetrating properties and stain repellent formulation, it is ideally suited to the protection of pavements that are subjected to heavy footfall.
21 Moorfields is the new headquarters for Deutsche Bank in the City of London. The scheme was originally commissioned in 2012 and the development sits above a new ticket hall for the Elizabeth Line. The scheme incorporates newly pedestrianised streets, squares, walkways and an extended bridge to the Barbican. The 21 Moorfields development is suspended over the rail interchange via a steel bridge structure.
Commenting on the 21 Moorfields paving scheme deep clean, Go-Gum Managing Director Rob Dixon said: “Our Street Cleaning Teams are well used to working under tight restrictions, in busy, built-up areas, so the working restrictions for this project were no problem for us. We formulated a plan in consultation with the City of London and executed that plan precisely. All of the work was completed on schedule, on budget and to the clients satisfaction.”
