City of London Junction Improvement Scheme Protected with Pave-Saver

Post Construction Deep Clean at Bank Junction Improvement Scheme

Bank Junction sits at the heart of the City of London, adjacent to the Bank of England. The area has undergone an extensive, phased improvement scheme during 2024, with the aim of making the area a safer and nicer place to travel through and visit.

Following each phase of the improvement works, the Go-Gum Group’s subsidiary Surface Solve Ltd, were contracted to undertake a post construction deep clean and application of Pave-Saver to the newly remodelled paving. In total, over the course of the works, 4,650m2 of York Stone Paving was given a deep, post-construction clean, then protected with two applications of Pave-Saver.

The post construction deep clean was carried out during six separate site visits, with all operations taking place at the weekends, in order to minimise disruption to the public, local businesses and transportation hubs. Surface Solve Ltd operatives, equipped with the Go-Gum Lanceman DiBO Cleaning Machine, followed the civil engineering and hard landscaping crews, cleaning and protecting the newly laid York Stone Paving.

Paving protection came courtesy of Pave-Saver, our unique paving protector which protects stone surfaces from all manner of pollution, including discarded chewing gum stains. Pave-Saver helps the York Stone Paving remain clean by repelling water, airborne dirt, acid rain, smog, industrial pollutants, oil and grease, dust and organic growth (lichens & moss). Thanks to its exceptional penetration and stain repellent properties, it is ideally suited to the protection of pavements that are subjected to heavy foot traffic.

The pavement widening works included new kerbs, paving, wider pedestrian crossing points and improved drainage. It is hoped that these incremental improvements will reduce casualties by simplifying Bank Junction for all road users. Pedestrian crowding levels should be reduced and local air quality improved with the aid of in-ground planters.

Commenting on the Bank Junction Improvement Scheme works, Go-Gum Managing Director Rob Dixon said: “Our street cleaning team at Surface Solve Ltd were ideally equipped, and well experienced, in just this sort of post construction deep clean. As our urban areas undergo regeneration works, we’re increasingly being asked to ‘finish the job’ with our deep clean and surface protection service.”

Rob went on to say: “Now, with two applications of Pave-Saver, the newly widened and improved footways will be protected from pollution and staining for years to come.”
