Haven Place Ealing Receives Deep Clean and easy-on™ Anti Graffiti Coating Protection

From Graffiti Scrawl to Clean Wall: Haven Place, Ealing Transformed

Tucked between the busy retail thoroughfare of The Broadway and Ealing Broadway station, Haven Place is a well-used pedestrian alleyway at the very heart of Ealing town centre. Thousands of shoppers, commuters and visitors pass through it every week, making it a visible and important piece of the town’s urban fabric. When the alleyway’s boundary wall fell victim to graffiti scrawl and years of accumulated organic growth, main contractor Murrill Construction turned to the Go-Gum Group to prepare, clean and protect the surface ahead of a full repaint.

The scope of works required a carefully phased approach. Before any painting could take place, the wall first needed a thorough preparatory deep clean to remove moss, lichen, organic growth, loose dirt, brick fragments and residual mortar — the kind of ingrained surface deterioration that builds up over years in a sheltered, high-footfall urban passageway. Surface Solve Ltd, the Go-Gum Group’s specialist street scene subsidiary, was appointed to carry out all phases of the works.

For the deep clean, the team deployed a Go-Gum Lanceman DiBO street cleaning machine, using high temperature, pressurised water to thoroughly clean the brick wall surface and bring it back to a sound, stable condition ready to receive paint. The DiBO made light work of stripping away the organic growth and loosened debris, leaving the surface properly prepared and primed for the decoration phase that followed.

With the preparatory clean complete, two full applications of white masonry paint were applied to the wall, restoring a clean, bright appearance to the alleyway and eliminating all trace of the graffiti scrawl that had blighted it. To ensure the freshly painted surface would remain graffiti-free for as long as possible, a single application of easy-on™ anti graffiti paint was then applied as a final protective coat. easy-on™ is the Go-Gum Group’s specialist anti graffiti coating, formulated to protect a wide variety of surfaces from graffiti vandalism and make future graffiti removal significantly quicker and easier, without causing damage to the substrate beneath.

All works at Haven Place were carried out during daytime hours and the full project — preparatory deep clean, two coats of masonry paint and one application of easy-on™ — was completed within three days. The result is a noticeably brighter, cleaner and better-protected passageway for the many thousands of people who use it every day.

Commenting on the project, Rob Dixon, Managing Director of the Go-Gum Group said: “Haven Place is exactly the kind of location where our combination of deep cleaning and surface protection products really comes into its own. The preparatory clean was essential — you can’t expect paint or a protective coating to perform well on a surface that hasn’t been properly prepared. Our team worked efficiently and the finished result speaks for itself. It’s a much more welcoming space.”
