Go-Gum Deep Clean and Disinfect Bin Storage Areas Across Two Iconic City of London Estates

The Barbican Estate and the neighbouring Golden Lane Estate are two of the most celebrated examples of post-war architecture in the United Kingdom. Designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon, the Grade II and Grade II* listed Golden Lane Estate is often cited as a model estate, while the Barbican Estate stands today as an exemplar of Brutalist architecture and one of London’s most distinctive residential addresses. Both estates are home to thousands of residents in the heart of the City of London, and both share a common challenge familiar to any large residential development: keeping communal bin storage areas clean, hygienic and welcoming. That is where the Go-Gum Group came in.

Contracted by the City of London Corporation, the Go-Gum Group was appointed to carry out a thorough bin store deep clean and disinfection across both estates. In total, thirteen bin areas were treated: nine across the Barbican Estate and four across the Golden Lane Estate. Prior to any cleaning taking place, Go-Gum operatives carried out an initial site survey across all thirteen locations, assessing the condition of each area and planning the most effective approach.

A team of two operatives then set to work across both sites over two days. Working in tandem, the first operative applied a safe, outdoor disinfectant spray to each bin storage area using a low-pressure sprayer, ensuring all surfaces were thoroughly treated before any physical cleaning began. Following directly behind, the second operative used a Go-Gum Lanceman DiBO to carry out a comprehensive bin store deep clean of each area, removing ingrained dirt, grime and residual waste deposits from the surfaces.

The result across both estates was a marked improvement in the cleanliness and appearance of all thirteen bin storage areas, delivering a more hygienic and pleasant environment for the many hundreds of residents who use them on a daily basis.
